The Gutenberg Bible on View with Other Treasures on Europeana.eu

By Liza Foreman

Once upon a time, people read books for pleasure. Pictured here an image of the 42-line Gutenberg Bible, the first major book made with movable type which helped herald in the age of print.

This Gutenberg Bible is housed in the British Library. But it can also now be viewed, along with 24 million other artifacts from Europe's cultural history, on the five-year-old portal www.europeana.eu.

Other treats include The Treaty of Versailles and the Mona Lisa.

Who needs blockbusters.
